Remembers coming across circus bears in Manchester. Living with her grandfather (father's father) and her three great uncles in Higher Broughton, Manchester. Fluent reader by age 6. Has three younger sisters. The youngest died from Whooping Cough. Her father fractured his uncle and died three years later from it. Moved to Littleborough, Lancashire/Yorkshire in 1908. She enjoyed studying and had 20 certificates including typing, book-keeping, arithmetics, English Language and Literature,

Full-time at cotton mill from aged 13. 
Senior auditor for local firms during the first world war. 

Emigrate to Canada in 1924
1931 returned to England
