Activities/Hobbies:
On his way to and from school, he would dally at the glassworks in the next street to watch glass-blowers making lamp glasses for oil lamps. 
Enjoyed going to town to "Suckers' Alley", a small street just on the edge of Smithfield Market, noted for its ice-cream carts. 
Queen's Park, the museum, where lectures on various subjects were given from time to time, and where bands - mostly played regularly at weekends. 
Within a few hundred yards of the cemetery - down Turkey Lane, which ran by the side of the Baptist Church, was the Queen's Park Hippodrome - home of exciting horror stories. 

Events:
Very serious railway crash on Collyhurst Road, on very high bridges.  
An "angel" sighting standing among the graves became the subject of reports in the local papers of the day - the 'Evening Chronicle' and the 'News'.
