TitleTeaching Appointments 1872
DescriptionSplit into:

1. Letters from Schools - when the school writes to the BFSS requesting a teacher, these also in some cases include the testimonials for the newly appointed and the leaver. These are alphabetised by school name and, where detailed, the names of the appointed and leaver have been given. In 1872, the 1870 Education Act had recently been introduced which is reflected in these letters; many come from newly opened Board Schools or schools requiring a certified teacher to handle a government inspection.

2. Letters from Teachers - when a teacher writes to the BFSS requesting help to find a new appointment. These are alphabetised by the teacher's surname and, where detailed, include the school they are leaving 'From:' or have been newly appointed 'To:'. These letters also include details on some of the 1871-72 Borough Road College graduates who are receiving their first appointment after graduating.
