She was born in a terraced house in White Knob Row, but shortly after her family moved to one in Globe Square, Cheshire.
From the age of three she attended a school nearby to her home.
At nine years old, her family moved to Hyde for her father’s work, and so she started attending Hyde Wesleyans.

On the 21st June 1913, she was married at age 23, later having three children - one son and two daughters.

When she was 13, she started work in Slack Mills in the weaving shed.

She mentioned the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria occurring when she was six years old.
During the First World War, her husband had joined the Royal Engineers whilst she kept working at the Mills.
She had participated in the Second World War, with the Women’s Voluntary Service, and wrote about the war efforts during and after air raids.

She briefly mentioned a period where she enjoyed dancing.
She started working for the Women’s Voluntary Service and continued for 17 years.
