Born in Manchester, they grew up with a large family. He attended Holy Innocents Infant School and was later transferred to the Junior School, known as Tonge School.
Married.
He started as a halftime in the Cotton Mill, learning the trade. Started full time at the Cotton Mill, aged 13. During the years 1920-1926, he was a trades unionist, and Shop Chairman of Stewards. He enlisted in the Territorial Army in 1908, until 1912.
Rationing was mentioned as he was young when the First World War had started. The cotton trade was explained in more detail, highlighting the wage system. With the mentioning of their political activities, he also included information about the General Strike.
He was politically active, being an active member of the Independent Labour Party, between 1920 and 1930. He was a member of the Executive Committee for Oldham’s Spinners.
