Father a paper mill worker, mother worked at home sewing garments for a clothing factory until marriage.
Educated at local church school from ages 4 to 14.
Lived in Overton; East Oakley; Llanelli; Burry Port; Ystradgynlais [Wales]; London.

Married October 1918.
Had 4 children.

Apprentice in Burberry's gaberdine factory aged 14, but moved to smaller workshop to work alongside an aunt.
Then worked in domestic service as housemaid, parlourmaid (1911 - 1915), shop assistant.
Active socialist and member of the Labour Party.
Brief mention of family and domestic and work lives in 19th century, much detail on Edwardian village life and leisure, work and politics.

Following her marriage to James Griffiths in 1918, the autobiography concentrates more fully on her political activities on behalf of the Labour movement.
