Her mother had 6 children before her.
They owned a shop, which they would not close until 10pm.
Her father started giving her one shilling every week as pocket money.

Was promoted to standard two at 9 years old.
Breakfast at 7:30am , then washed herself and her brother and prepared to run errands for her mother.
At 12, Dora would take dinner to her sister mabel at church which was a quarter of an hours walk. Her sister was engaged at the time, Mabel always gave Dora a halfpenny, which Dora would spend at the sweet shop.
She started writing poems; and would get her inspiration from walks, such as by the sea. Her dad bought her two exercise books to write her poems in; and showed her poems he had written as a young boy.
Dora soon began to write songs as well, and her dad called her "his little nightingale".


Would read the Lord's prayer every night before bed.
Daily walks to Bulls, where she would spend her weekly shilling.

An account of Dora's life tihe her parents; days at school, with her siblings etc.
