Lived in a semi-basement with three floors above, and high-ceilinged rooms. At the time her parents could only afford the basement. Suffered from measles at nine months old. Her father was constantly out of work, which meant less money came into the household and so, her mother unwillingly had to go to the parish to do something about it and took in lodgers. Her father later joined the Battersea Borough Brass Band. Moved to North London after her auntie’s return from Haworth.

Attended Tylers Green School on her and her family’s return to London. Undertook craft classes at A.T.S and W.R.A.F. camps in the division. Superintended Sunday School. Worked as a teacher in a church school. In 1950, she transferred to the newly built secondary modern school at Heathfield. In 1954, she retired permanently over Christmas.
