Her parents had four children, who were born within five years, three came down with small pox, but none were lost. Her father worked at the Coalbrookdale Iron Foundry at the age of 8. He was a good craftsman in grey iron moulding, a trade unionist. He became an agnostic.
At the age of 7 she was drafted into the big boys school in the 2nd standard. School hours were from 9am to 12pm, and 2pm to 4.30pm, there was a break of 10 minutes. Discipline was very strict. In the autumn of 1898, attended the technical school of Suffolk St. taking a five year course in metallurgy. In 1902, attended a London College for a three day written and analysis exam and was fortunate in obtaining an Honours certificate in the City of London Guilds exam.
She commenced work in 1880, and the cycle trade was creating a boom with the invention of the “safety” bike. Commenced work at the new Hudson Cycle Co. and was given the job of attending to requisitions for replacement parts from the agents. The next job was in the gun trade at Robert Hughes and Sons Moland St.
Married on the 12th of July 1906 at the age of 28 and his wife was the same age. Sons, Dick and Ted.
Queen Victoria was crowned in 1837, when her father was of 8 years. Held Christmas parties every year, until her mother died in 1902 at the age of 68. Then her sister, and her husband carried it on for another 26 years.
