Her then boyfriend (Bill) was asked to join his Army unit. A couple weeks after war was declared Bill's unit was sent up to Morpeth. It lasted until November 1946 when he was demobbed, with brief interludes of leave and partings.
Married/Children: Married Bill on 21st March 1942. 2 sons, her eldest son went to canada at the age of 20 and is now has a wife and two children. Her younger son went out in1981 to take up a job near Montreal, and he lives there with his wife and baby.
Work: She felt like doing something positive in the war effect. So joined the W.V.S. and went to a First Aid Post situated at the local swimming baths, where for two and a half years she spent one night a week training and then duty all night, sleeping on a camp bed. She had lectures on First Aid and how to act in the event of gas being discharged by the enemy, including learning how to dress in protective clothing to clean up any gas which was around. in 1941 she had to register for war work but then, got offered to work for Canadian Postal Corps as a shorthand typist. Accepted the offer and worked with Canadians for four and a half years, first in Manchest and later in London.
Activities/Hobbies: The Royal Opera House at Covent Garden was turned into a dance hall during the war and twice a party of them went there.
