DescriptionLetter to Robert Forster from John Henry Moore, Malacca. Miss Wallace has arrived. Sends his school reports. He is no longer travelling on behalf of the British and Foreign Bible Society, as he felt unsuitable to the task, the BFBS not pleased. His schools has lost pupils to new schools in the Portuguese language established by Mrs Garling. Also, Chinese, Tamil and Malay schools. Miss Wallace has commenced work with the Chinese Female schools, but her friends are leaving soon. Miss [Maria] Newall is about to marry and leave the area with her husband Mr [Karl Friedrich August] Gutzlaff [they went to Siam], and Mrs Garling and family are also leaving. Moore is the editor of the Malacca Observer, has incurred the displeasure of the Governor by writing against slavery and about nothing being done to prevent piracy.
