Following school, she helped her mother with managing the home.

Following her father’s death, she struggled to find employment until coming across a job as a “young lady assistant in the Glass and China Department”.
In February 1906, she was employed in the Head Office of Lever Brothers Limited and after five years, she was made a co-partner.
She was then the librarian of Lever Library, which she worked at for 22 years.

She detailed the events of various shipwrecks and casualties, and its aftermath.
The First World War was mentioned, alongside the South African War, and how it impacted the family.
At the library she had met writers Hall Ciane, Harold Begbie, Emil Cammaert, and Richard Whiting.

She had a passion for literature, and often recommended books to her workers at the Library.
