Born in Claro Place, Leeds. He had four brothers and three sisters. Attended Meanwood Road Board School and Primitive Methodist Sunday School. Left school at the age of 13.
He was married and had three children.
Began to work with a Gold Beater at the age of 13. Worked at Painters and Decorators. He then worked for Ticket and Showcard department. He worked on advertisement slides for use in cinemas. Joined the army. In 1930, he set up his own business, producing showcards, tickets, church posters, etc. He became a superintendent at a Sunday School. He retired at the age of 80 in 1967.
Interested in drawing and painting. Enjoyed going to Bazaars.
The autobiography focuses on author’s work during his lifetime, such as what the life of a gold-beater consisted of. The autobiography also focuses on the lives of his family members.
Some parts of autobiography are typed-written, whereas some are handwritten.
