He was born in the Village of East Kennett, in Wiltshire, England. He had four brothers and one sister who all died due to black fever. After his siblings died, his mother had two more children. He attended Dame’s School for a few years but left at the age of 14. He left home and became a resident of Australia in 1852.
He married his wife who was also an emigrant from West of England.
At the age of 14, he went to work at his father’s workshop. He then became an apprentice for three years at Iron Works. After coming to Australia, he and his brother started a business as a firm called H. & W. Webb. He paid in order to get his Miners License so that he could try and find gold. He then found a job at temporary workshops. He then started his own business where consisted of horse shoeing, farming implements, building waggons and other vehicles.
The autobiography focuses on the upbringing of the author so that he can share it with his family and future children. The autobiography also provides descriptions of the families’ of his siblings.
