Born in the parish of Hingham, Norfolk. As a child, he was unable to enjoy sports and amusements due to the fear of God's anger against him. He briefly struggled with suicide because he felt a lot of sin and wickedness within him.
Married a daughter of a deacon.
He took great insterest in reading the New Testament.
The autobiography focuses on the author's views regarding religion. From a young age, he would think of sin, fears regarding his position in the world, and God's anger against him. The autobiography then takes us on a journey of the author's conversion to Christianity. He was baptised at the age of 19 which led to him having less thoughts of evil, and instead his mind increased in strength.
