FAQs

How can I find out more information about an entry displayed in the 'search results' hitlist?

To view a full record description, click on any part of the record. If you then want to browse the record in its hierarchical context (i.e. how it relates to other records in the collection), click on Ref No.

I have found records in the catalogue that I am interested in. How do I arrange to see the records in person?

For more information about visiting the Archives, please look at our website.

How do I request copies of records listed in the Archive catalogue?

Depending on the condition of the original item, its size, quantity etc, we may be able to scan it and send you a digital copy. A fee will apply. Please contact us for details.

Are any records available to view online through the catalogue?

Records available online include c. 1000 records (photographs, articles, magazines etc) which have been scanned and attached to their catalogue entries, as well as some “born-digital” records. This total increases all the time, as work continues in this area.

Do you offer a remote research service?

Yes we do, subject to staff availability. The charges in 2021 for our research service are as follows:

£7 for initial look up, ie a person, particular British school. This includes a few scans. Please note that this is payable in advance and the fee is not refundable.

£7 per 30 mins for more complex research, time to be capped by you. The first £7 is payable in advance, thereafter you will be advised of the final fee, within your stated limit.

Large amounts of scanning will be charged at £7 per 30 mins of staff time.

We normally try to undertake the research / scanning within 2 weeks.

If you would like us to undertake research for you based on these charges and timescale, please let us know by email and we will send you details of how to pay.

Why can't I find what I'm looking for?

It is important to note that the online catalogue represents only a small proportion of our archives. Work is constantly ongoing to add items to the online catalogue.

If you have any problems searching the catalogue, please do not hesitate to contact us on archivesandrecords@brunel.ac.uk
