DescriptionLetter from Isabella Walsh, Stoke Newington. Re Miss Harmer. Also enclosed Report on Female Education in Constantinople [Istanbul]. English school opened in Constantinople in 1849, under the auspices of Lady Stratford de Redcliffe, for daughters of British subjects and others. Now under direction of Misses Walsh. Now proposing to establish a class of free pupils for Turkish Christian girls, as Turkish Christians are "cast off by their own people and are deprived of all means of educating them". The girls will be trained as teachers. Requests funding.
